Ephemeral Beauty

Today, after entertaining residents of the Tokyo/Chiba area for a week, the cherry trees have started to shed lots of pink petals to the ground (see photos). When a wind blows, more cherry petals are shed like a snow storm. It is called sakura fubuki (sakura = cherry tree and flower, fubuki = blizzard), though a gentle wind is powerful enough to create sakura fubuki. This is one of the most beautiful moments in walking along the lines of cherry trees.

This is also a sign that the cherry flowers will be gone within 2-3 days, which makes us a bit sad.
