Eastern Red Cedar

I have been to the Engakuji temple in Kamakura today for a weekend zen meditation as usual.

This is the entrance to Hojo, which was originally used as the living room for the monks. Now it is used for various ceremonial events.

This is the main building of Hojo. The tree on the right is Eastern Red Cedar (aka Chinese juniper; byakusin in Japanese).

I love this beautiful and mysterious tree of  Eastern Red Cedar. It stands alone, and is quite different from the tall Red Cedars that forms forests, such as those in the Muir Woods National Park, California.
